Dr. Mallampati is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the Medical Director of the Molecular Genetic Pathology Laboratory at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. He received a doctorate in Molecular Medicine from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. Over his 14-year career at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, he progressed from a postdoctoral fellow to an Assistant Professor and eventually served as the Director of the Assay Development Laboratory, leading the creation of MD Anderson’s solid tumor panel.
In 2021, Dr. Mallampati joined St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as the Technical Director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory. In this role, he was instrumental in developing and implementing multiple comprehensive sequencing platforms for profiling hematologic and solid tumors and monitoring minimal residual disease noninvasively through liquid biopsies.
Dr. Mallampati’s clinical pursuits focus on developing rapid-turnaround, comprehensive clinical genomics assays to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of constitutional disorders, infectious diseases, and cancers. His research interests encompass the development of prognostic biomarkers, early cancer diagnostic applications, and software applications with translational potential for patient care.
Dr. Mallampati holds certification as a High-Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director (HCLD) from the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB). He is an active member of the ABB, the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), and the Association of Molecular Pathology (AMP). Dr. Mallampati is passionate about training the next generation of physicians and scientists, contributing to the advancement of molecular pathology.
