Chairman’s Message
I invite you to explore our website for a comprehensive view of our Emergency Medicine Department at UAMS. As interim chair, I am proud to lead a team of dedicated healthcare professionals committed to providing exceptional emergency care to our community and state. Our specialty offers a unique opportunity for our patients who could have a life-changing experience. We have invested much time in developing and selecting Emergency Physician Specialists to provide this type of care. It is part of our department’s mission to deliver timely, high-quality, compassionate patient care while creating an environment of collegiality, multi-disciplinary collaboration, outstanding clinical teaching, and impactful scientific discovery.
Our Emergency Department is not just growing in numbers but also in its commitment to our mission. The census is increasing by about three percent annually, and we currently see over 60,000 patients. This growth presents ample opportunities to provide life-long learning experiences for our residents and students. We recruit residents and physicians with varied backgrounds, diversity, and career goals and have talented faculty committed to community service, clinical research, education, and professional development. In addition to providing resident education, we have fellowship training programs in both Ultrasound and Education. We plan to expand additional fellowship programs, all driven by our mission.
UAMS is the state’s largest public employer, with over 10,000 employees. UAMS was recently named one of only 53 hospitals in the country for “Best Regional Hospitals for Equitable Access.” We have a clinical affiliation with Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. It is the state’s only Level I Trauma Center, a free-standing Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital, a world-class cancer treatment center, the only transplant center for both kidney and liver, and a leader in acute stroke care. We have an extensive telemedicine program that includes research.
Thank you for visiting our website and learning about our Emergency Medicine programs at UAMS. We are deeply committed to training outstanding physicians, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to provide the best care for our patients. We invite you to explore our programs. Feel free to contact our department for further information.
