The Division of Education is the Department’s largest division and the foundation on which our academic mission is built. The cornerstone of this foundation is our Emergency Medicine Residency Program, which was established in 1983 and has nearly 300 alumni. We are also proud to offer multiple medical student experiences and two fellowship programs. We also enjoy strong relationships with other departments at UAMS that welcome EM-trained fellows, including Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine-Critical Care, and Bioinformatics.
Our faculty come from diverse backgrounds and have equally diverse interests within the realm of education. We have education fellowship-trained physicians, graduates of the Academic Life in Emergency Medicine (ALiEM) Faculty Incubator program, and several others who have completed an array of education- and leadership-oriented faculty development programs.
Faculty in the Division of Education have published and presented research on leadership, feedback, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in EM education, among other topics. Our faculty hold leadership roles at the institutional, regional, and national levels, including in SAEM, ACEP, and CORD.
Finally, we provide unparalleled opportunities as the premier academic institution in Arkansas. Our learners benefit from innovative and progressive educational experiences with a commitment to continued growth and improvement. Additionally, our learners have an unmatched ability to participate in shaping our programs within an established and intentional learner-centered environment. This affords our trainees access to real-world clinical and non-clinical experiences along with structured mentorship designed to prepare them for success in any career path.
