Overview
The UAMS Department of Emergency Medicine values all people equally. We work hard to give everyone the best chance for good health. To do this, we:
- Actively try to learn about you, your values, and your communities
- Seek out students, residents, faculty, and staff from different backgrounds to care for our patients
- Give all patients the same great care and encouragement no matter your race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, age, or ability

Women of EM
In 2018, our department founded the Women of EM group. With the growing number of female faculty, residents, and staff, we knew it was important to create an organization that allowed for important conversations, support, mentorship, and empowerment amongst the women in our field.
Since its creation, we have hosted several social events (pre-COVID) which allowed us to get to know each other outside of work and form strong friendships between faculty and residents! Thus far, our social events have ranged from paint parties and bowling, to “Girl’s Night Out,” to weddings and baby showers/food drives.
We have also held discussions about important topics that especially relate to women in medicine. Thus far, we have covered Imposter Syndrome, Leadership and Communication, and Gender Bias. These discussions have not only led to important conversations, but also strong mentorship and sponsorship between residents, students, and faculty.
The UAMS EM Residency Women of EM group is open to all EM residents and faculty, as well as EM-interested senior medical students, who want to advance women in the field of emergency medicine.
