Scarlett Acklin, a third-year medical student active in research within the UAMS Department of Radiation Oncology, was awarded the 2018-2019 Eleanor Duncan Oncology Scholarship from the Conway Regional Health Foundation. Scarlett has been conducting her medical research in Dr. Fen Xia’s research lab. Scarlett’s research project is investigating the underlining molecular mechanism of cancer therapy induced peripheral neuropathy.
Funded by private donations, the foundation awards scholarships to students of health professions each year. In this year’s cycle, seventy-five applications were received, twenty interviews were extended, and fifteen scholarships were awarded. Scarlett’s striking academic record, community involvement, and research experiences distinguished her in a competitive pool of applicants.
