Dr. Larry Hartzell, Director of the Cleft Lip and Palate Program at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, recently traveled to Guayaquil, Ecuador, on a global humanitarian surgical trip. The volunteer teams were part of Operation Smile, which is a branch of the Global Smile Foundation.

Proton Radiation Therapy for Head and Neck Cancer
In 2013, a 68-year-old woman was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma at the base of the tongue. She underwent surgery consisting of removal of the mass and a left modified neck mode dissection, followed by chemotherapy and radiation. In June 2023, a surveillance CT scan showed the cancer had returned.
