Equally important to the training program is having a group of adjunct faculty within the community who are passionate about resident education. Our community pediatricians provide custom learning experiences to support your long term career goals. We are excited to highlight our latest Community Pediatrician Educator of the Quarter, Dr. Josh Lyon from All For Kids Pediatrics in Little Rock.
Tell us what you love about community practice.
Easily the families. The absolute best part of my job is getting to be a part of the lives of the families who live in my community. Walking alongside them and my patients is more fun, rewarding, and humbling than any other job there is – I’m sure of it!
What advice would you give to residents who are interested in private practice?
Come check it out! Spend some time with me or any other community pediatrician in an area you’re interested in. Ask questions – easy, hard, and uncomfortable questions. And enjoy the bonds you are making right now with families in the hospital and the clinic.
How did the UAMS Peds Residency prepare you for your career in pediatrics?
Honestly, it was great! I had several areas of specific interest within primary care that our residency program really fostered. If I wanted to go more in-depth into something than what our program typically did, they encouraged that and helped me to do it. By no means do I know everything in my two years of private practice and 3 years of residency, but you aren’t supposed to. I learn something new every day and residency prepared me to get started and laid heavy groundwork, but also taught me to be a life-long learner.
