Dear Prospective Pediatric Resident,
Welcome to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) Pediatric Residency Program in Little Rock, Ark. This program started in 1953 and has graduated over 900 residents since its inception. Our current residents’ representation includes 42 medical schools, 19 states, and seven countries. We are proud of who we have recruited over the years and want to expand our reach further. We graduate residents that stay in town to serve the community as general pediatricians, while others become subspecialists and often return to this community. Regardless of your career choice, UAMS/ACH is the place for you. We will develop you into an advocate, skilled clinician, leader and educator. We will prepare you to serve a diverse, underserved community that will keep you energized and engaged in pediatric medicine.
Residency involves learning new skills, building relationships, and personal/professional growth. Our residency sets you up for success in doing so. Our residents and faculty create a supportive and inclusive environment that allows you to thrive. Although we cherish the clinical skills you will develop, we prioritize resident education and your ability to become the clinician you desire to be to care for the patients you desire to serve. We expect this phase of life to be the start of long-lasting personal and professional relationships through friendship, mentorship, and sponsorship. We are a family in Arkansas and would be honored to welcome you to the fold.
Our program is committed to robust clinical education supplemented by didactic learning. ACH is a premier site for clinical training. It is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the United States and a primary tertiary care center in Arkansas. Residents care for patients with various medical problems, from foundational pediatric care in our resident-centered Primary Care Clinic and general pediatric wards to managing those with complex subspecialty care needs. Our didactic learning is delivered through morning reports, noon conference sessions, and academic half-days. These sessions include board preparation, simulation, advocacy, DEI, wellness, quality improvement, and research principles.
Each recruitment year brings excitement and a new journey for every applicant and program. I am proud to serve as the program director for the UAMS/ACH Pediatric Residency Program Director. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to get to know you as you explore residency programs. We look forward to meeting you virtually and discussing your potential future as a pediatric resident. You will be pleasantly surprised by what our program and Arkansas offer you and your family. Check us out, and do not miss out on joining a wonderful team!
