As the only Children’s Hospital system in the state of Arkansas, we serve a wide catchment area including patients from all over the state as well as surrounding states who require subspecialty, outpatient and inpatient care.
High Risk Populations
Similar to other rural states, Arkansas tends to rank poorly on multiple health and wellbeing metrics, allowing for treatment of patients and families with multiple risk factors for poor health outcomes. Serving this population requires consideration of the complexities of medical care with limited resources and provides our residents the opportunity to see and recognize the importance of social determinants of health.
Marshallese in Arkansas
Northwest Arkansas is home to the largest Marshallese community outside of the Marshall Islands. With more than 12,000 Marshallese residents in Springdale, AR, Arkansas Children’s Hospital provides medical care for many children within this small but significant community. Providing care for this unique population, our pediatric residents recognize the importance of culturally sensitive care in addressing the needs of this population.
