Application Instructions
The first step for seeking entry into the program is completing the UAMS Graduate School’s application for admission. After completing the application and attaching the supplemental documents, an interview will be scheduled. The period for interviewing is listed in the above timeline. The supplemental documents required for submission with the application include:
- Official copies of transcripts of all of the institutions you have attended.
- Current CV/Resume.
- A written statement of application. The candidate’s written statement of interest must convincingly demonstrate alignment of the candidate’s career goals with the goals of the program, i.e., a career as researcher or professional in an area of Biomedical Informatics. The most competitive candidates will have evidence of prior pursuit of projects, courses, work, or internship experience in biomedicine or biomedical informatics.
- An official copy of score (or scores) acceptable to the program on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Additionally, GRE and MCAT scores for Masters and Ph.D. admission may be waived for applicants with an existing doctoral degree. GRE and MCAT Scores will also be waived for applicants with a final GPA of 3.0 or greater in the BMI certificate program. No GRE or MCAT is required for the certificate program.
- Three letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to the applicant’s academic experience. Letters should be from researchers and/or professionals who are familiar with the candidate’s aptitude for advanced computational coursework and abstract thinking.
The Graduate School’s application for the Biomedical Informatics graduate program closes on April 1, 2023. If this application is not completed and supplemental documents are not received by the UAMS Graduate School by April 1, 2023, the application cannot be considered for the 2023 academic term. Please note: official copies of all required documents must be submitted to the UAMS Graduate School in the application for biomedical informatics program through the graduate school’s website.
If you are seeking entry for Spring or Fall 2023, please request that official documents be sent to:
UAMS Graduate School
4301 W. Markham St., Slot# 601
Little Rock, AR 72205
It is the applicant’s responsibility to request that one official copy of the applicant’s academic record be sent directly to the Graduate School Office from EACH college or university that the applicant has previously attended. The academic record should include all courses, grades, credits attempted and degree(s) earned. (Note: The fact that courses completed at one institution may be included on a transcript from another institution will not suffice; official transcripts must be received from each institution previously attended.) All transcripts become the property of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Graduate School and will not be released to the applicant or to any other person, institution or agency. No official action is taken on any application until all transcripts are received.
Additionally, you are invited to explore our website to familiarize yourself with the faculty with whom you might want to work. Also provided is information about registration dates and the required student orientation days. More information will be provided if you are accepted into the program. If you have any questions about the program and/or timelines, please contact the Education Program Manager, Crystin Mullins, at cmullins@uams.edu.
