“Detection of parechovirus A in respiratory, gastrointestinal, and neurological clinical samples of pediatric patients from Panama (2014–2015)” is the name of the article recently published in Virology Journal and co-authored by Dr. Viridiana Saenz, PGY-2 resident in the UAMS Little Rock Family Medicine residency program.

Dr. Diane Jarrett Wins the UAMS MVP Award
COM Dean G. Richard Smith presented Dr. Jarrett with the UAMS College of Medicine MVP Award during a surprise event in the DFPM.
Dr. Jarrett thought she was meeting with Dr. Kraleti to discuss changes in the website and in email distribution lists. Instead, she was surprised to find the Dean and many DFPM colleagues waiting to present this award to her.
The DFPM was really noticed in December, as Angie Kyzer from RED won the MVP Award earlier in the month. Great job!
Amrutha Denduluri (PGY-3) Wins STFM Scholarship
Dr. Amrutha Denduluri, a PGY-3 resident in the DFPM Little Rock Family Medicine residency program, has won a national distinction.
She has been chosen to receive the STFM Faculty for Tomorrow Resident Scholarship for 2024.
The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine chose Dr. Denduluri for this award due to her great potential as FM faculty. She receives free registration for the STFM Annual Conference in Los Angeles and for a special workshop with targeted discussions on academic career advice and how to learn change as a physician.

New Grant for Family Medicine Residency Education Network
Did you see this news in the College of Medicine Dean’s Accolades? The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine (DFPM) will develop an Arkansas Family Medicine Residency Network Educational Collaborative with support from the American Board of Family Medicine Foundation. The foundation awarded an initial grant of $5,000 for the network, which will support graduate medical education innovation and outcomes, professional collaboration, and the sharing of best practices to enhance population care across the state. Leaders in the initiative include Dr. Shashank Kraleti, Garnett Chair of Family Medicine and Director of the Primary Care and Population Health Service Line, Dr. Julea Garner, Director of the Baptist Health/UAMS Family Medicine Residency Program, and Dr. Diane Jarrett, Director of the DFPM Office of Communication and Departmental Relations.
Dr. Meghan Gibson Accepted to the UAMS Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship
Dr. Meghan Gibson will become a Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellow at UAMS in 2024-2025.
She is graduating from our Family Medicine residency program in June 2024 and already has her next step lined up. Congratulations, Dr. Gibson!

Dr. Lauren Gibson-Oliver has been chosen for the 2024 STFM (Society of Teachers of Family Medicine) New Faculty Scholar Award.
