Clinical Research

Department of Family and Preventive Medicine (DFPM) Clinical faculty routinely attend and present at national conferences such as the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and the North American Primary Care Research Group.

DFPM Residents are encouraged and supported in research through four options:

Clinical Research Presentation with Poster
Residents pose with research posters.
  • Resident Journal Club – Residents apply the principles of evidence-based medicine in clinical practice.
  • PPFM – Practical Problems in Family Medicine– Residents research, prepare, and deliver patient-centered or disease-centered, evidence-based lectures on topics that are commonly encountered in Family Medicine.
  • Prevention Project –Residents review a clinically relevant office-based prevention topic, identify best clinical practices, assess FMC compliance with those practices, and make a high-quality scholarly presentation with emphasis on recommendations for improvement.
  • Research Rotation with clinical or community-based research faculty – Residents learn about the research process and are actively engaged in an ongoing research project.

Many residents highlight their work at the annual Intensive Review Course.
