Harold H. Hedges III, M.D., Endowed Scholarship in Family Medicine

About the Scholarship

To honor the services of Dr. Hedges and encourage others to follow his distinguished example, friends, colleagues, and patients have created the Harold H. Hedges III, M.D., Endowed Scholarships in Family Medicine.

Two scholarships are available each year: one to be awarded to a medical student at UAMS who matches with the Little Rock Family Medicine Residency Program, and one to a student matching in family medicine.  The second award is not contingent upon residency location.

“In a time such as this, when the increasing commercialization of medicine is leading to disappointment and cynicism among patients and frustration and opportunism among physicians, a doctor such as Harold Hedges must be recognized. He should be held up to the public as a source of hope and reassurance of its faith in the medical profession, and to his colleagues he should be displayed as the finest example of the compassion and commitment a doctor ought to display.”

Application Process

Applicants must submit a 250-word written statement of interest in family medicine, and one letter of recommendation from a faculty member.

Applicants will be evaluated on character, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and community service.

Applications are due by February 1 of each year.
