Cutting Edge Plastic Surgery
The Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences offers cutting-edge reconstructive plastic surgery for the entire state of Arkansas. The division provides state-of-the-art reconstructive surgical care to patients of all ages, with particular expertise in breast reconstruction, including nipple-saving surgery following mastectomy and “DIEP” (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator) Flap reconstruction.
The plastic surgeons at UAMS have exceptional training and experience due to special credentials like subspecialty, fellowship training in breast reconstruction surgery, hand reconstructive surgery, craniofacial reconstructive surgery and microsurgery, among others. Care is provided at UAMS Health and Arkansas Children’s.
The plastic surgery division has the state’s most experienced reconstructive surgeons covering emergency reconstructive care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They also work closely with other disciplines to enable them to perform complex cancer procedures. Our collaboration with surgical oncology, breast oncology, orthopedic oncology, urological oncology, and otorhinolaryngology (ENT) allows UAMS to provide highly customized and intricate reconstructive surgery after tumor extirpation or injury; including free tissue (flap) transfers and advanced microsurgery not available in other regional centers. By working closely with other surgical disciplines, they are able to consistently deliver high-quality patient care, in addition to providing the state’s best plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, which in turn also offers a specialized level of training and education to our surgery residents and medical students.
At Arkansas Children’s, the division provides reconstructive surgery following trauma, infection, and tumor removals. In addition, a wide spectrum of pediatric plastic surgical deformities are treated, such as nevi, facial cutaneous tumors, unfavorable scars, breast anomalies, cleft lip and palate, and craniofacial (skull) deformities and reconstructions.
