Radiology Research Symposium Showcases Innovation, Sparks Momentum
The inaugural Radiology Research Symposium was held Tuesday, April 15, at the Rahn Interprofessional Education Building, bringing together faculty, residents, students, and staff in a celebration of research and academic collaboration. With 45 in attendance, the event marked a significant step toward fostering a stronger culture of research within the Department of Radiology.
The symposium began with a one-hour moderated panel discussion featuring five experienced physicians: Drs. Tarun Pandey, Charles A. James, Teresita Angtuaco, Roopa Ram, and Bill Culp. Moderated by Drs. Hanna Jensen and Xiawei Ou, the panelists shared candid and inspiring insights on how they have successfully balanced research efforts alongside demanding clinical responsibilities.
The energy carried into a vibrant judged poster session featuring 15 student presenters. The session highlighted the diversity of projects being pursued and offered a glimpse into recent research advancements and innovative ideas taking root in the department.
The final hour of the symposium featured six compelling resident presentations, each demonstrating the depth, rigor, and clinical relevance of ongoing research. The quality of the work presented throughout the day reflected the department’s commitment to cultivating meaningful scholarship and continuous learning.
The day culminated in an awards ceremony where the following were recognized:
Rodrigo Meade received the award for Best Poster for his project, “FrostShield Duo: AI-Integrated Skin Protection for Cryoablation Procedures.“
Dr. Marianne Nabbout was awarded Best Presentation for her oral presentation titled “Acute Effects of Vaping and Smoking on Markers of Vascular Function via Quantitative MRI.“

Dr. Suryansh Bajaj, RSNA Resident Research Awardee and Dr. Hanna Jensen
The prestigious RSNA Resident Research Award was presented to Dr. Suryansh Bajaj, recognizing his exceptional contributions and promise as a physician-scientist.
With the successful launch of this symposium, organizers hope to build on the momentum and further encourage faculty, residents, and students to engage in research. The event served not only as a showcase for current work but also as an invitation for future collaboration and innovation.
