The Department of Radiology offers a unique integrated Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Residency position we call “NuRad.” This curriculum, which is completed in five years, includes one year of clinical training (“internship”) followed by four years of residency training. A total of 16 months are spent in nuclear medicine (including PET) and 32 months are in diagnostic radiology.
Upon completion of this five-year program, the resident will be eligible for certification by both the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and the American Board of Radiology.
Clinical experiences in Nuclear Medicine are at the UAMS Medical Center, the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital, and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. A full “hot lab” at the VA, where each patient dose is compounded, provides excellent training in nuclear pharmacy, augmented by the UAMS nuclear pharmacy training program. Equipment is state-of-the-art with high-quality single and dual head gamma cameras, SPECT/CT and PET-CTs, and an all PACS and VR department.
All training is ACGME-accredited. Positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program.
