Employee Spotlight

Rhonda Anthony, Executive Assistant to Dr. Smeltzer – Center for Microbial Pathogenesis Host Inflammatory Responses

Rhonda Anthony

How long have you worked at UAMS? 38 Years! Started in the Clin. Lab doing phlebotomy (4:00 a.m. every single day!) while going to school. (yea, I was like, nine years old! LOL!)

What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far? That everyone has strengths and weaknesses. Hone in on those strengths, and it’s a win-win for all! Also, patience is a BIG virtue and COVID-19 really put that to the test!

What is the one thing you cannot resist? Black Forrest Cake! (Really anything cherry) A good friend’s chef husband made a true Black Forrest cake for my birthday one year; sheer heaven!!!

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do? Pay off all my Mom’s debt and get her a brand new home and car!

What is the first concert you attended? Boy, this is dating me! Styx, Grand Illusion Tour back in 19…, well, that part’s not important.

What is on your bucket list? Go to Italy, buy a tricked out RV to travel the US with my mom and puppers!, Blow glass, get paid to travel, have a house cleaner and gardener, go to Maine to see lighthouses, clamming, and eat lobster! Experience weightlessness….my list gets added to all the time!!

Who has been the most influential person in your life and why? My husband, Tim. He made the best in me come out; taught me to see things from a different view and to love myself.

What is one of your favorite quotes? “Be good! If you can’t be good, be good at it!”

What would you name the autobiography of your life? Carry on, Boo.

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 18? Don’t waste time trying to please everyone and make sure everyone is happy and unbothered.
