Dr. Omar Atiq has been involved with the American College of Physicians (ACP) for more than 30 years since his internal medicine residency. Having served as the governor of the Arkansas chapter, the chairman of the Board of Governors, as well as other leadership positions with the Executive Committee of Board of Regents and the Health and Public Policy Committee, Dr. Atiq continues his professional connection to the ACP organization with this nomination as the President-Elect. He considers it a professional home for himself and so many other internists and sub-specialists.
Beyond his commitment to the ACP, Dr. Atiq is similarly dedicated to the patients he encounters every day. Referring to his work, he stated, “It is the highest privilege and honor for a stranger to put their life in your hands. As physicians, we get that privilege every day and it’s up to us to recognize that.” The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of the specialty and Dr. Atiq believes that the daily work to take care of the patients’ needs gives meaning to everything physicians do. For as long as possible, he plans to maintain his clinic schedule with patients at UAMS and to keep contributing to the future of the American College of Physicians.
We’re so proud of Dr. Atiq’s professional accomplishments and look forward to his tenure as President of the American College of Physicians!
