- Arkansas Children’s is a leading tertiary care center for infectious diseases in the region and has nationally recognized clinical and transplant research programs. The Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases is growing across the Arkansas Children’s system, including Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock and Arkansas Children’s Northwest in Springdale
- Currently consists of eight clinical physician faculty, two research Ph.D. faculty, one nurse practitioner and three specialty nurses; continued expansion actively planned
- Growing program in pediatric immunocompromised host / transplant infectious diseases with dedicated faculty
- Long-standing history of robust antimicrobial stewardship program and scholarship
- The position includes opportunities for multiple hospital leadership roles, including infection control and prevention and occupational health leadership
- Robust inpatient consult service and outpatient clinical services, all contributing to the section’s research, education and antimicrobial stewardship goals
- Ample opportunity to participate in and create collaborative multidisciplinary clinics, including both syndrome-focused and general infectious diseases clinics, as well as participation in the pediatric infectious diseases inpatient consult service.
- The Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases leads and supports several clinical research studies and involvement in educating medical students, residents, and fellows
- Oversees a 14-state collaborative of sites contributing to the RECOVER initiative to define and understand long COVID-19 in children
- Scientific and operational leadership for the International Pediatric Fungal Network, an NIH-funded multi-site organization dedicated to the research and development of optimal care for children with life-threatening infections
- Member of PIDTRAN, supporting studies that focus on infections among hematopoietic cell transplant and solid organ transplant pediatric patients
- Active basic science labs that are contributing members of many recently published and ongoing research programs
- Engaged in Collaborative Antiviral Study Group and multiple national clinical trials
- Actively involved in the Arkansas ECHO ISPCTN research efforts to recruit children in rural communities to close the “clinical trial gap” defined by the NIH
- The section is actively developing future leaders in academic health centers, sponsoring advanced degrees, leadership opportunities, and leadership training for all faculty in the section
- Executive coaching for all departmental leaders as well as extensive opportunities for leadership development
Practice Is Based at Arkansas Children’s Hospital
The Arkansas Children’s system includes two hospitals, a statewide care network of clinics and outreach programs, a research institute and a foundation. Arkansas Children’s is the only pediatric health system in the state of Arkansas, providing coverage to the state’s children from birth to age 21. The hospital staff consists of more than 500 faculty, 200 residents and 4,400 support staff.
