About Us

Committed to Excellence

The Department of Pediatrics is the largest department of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine. Our Department is comprised of more than 300 primary faculty, 100 Advanced Practice Providers, and more than 500 total physicians in the pediatric healthcare system at Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH).  Arkansas Children’s includes a dedicated pediatrics medical campus that spans more than 36 city blocks in Little Rock and is anchored by a 336-bed freestanding children’s hospital. We also have a second pediatric hospital, Arkansas Children’s Northwest, located in Springdale, Ark, approximately three hours from Little Rock, that is expanding from its current 24 pediatric patient beds to 96 beds.

The Arkansas Children’s Research Institute (ACRI) encompasses more than 200,000 square feet of wet and dry lab research space, and a large, dedicated animal facility. The ACRI includes 66 investigators, and our Department of Pediatrics is ranked #25 in the country amongst all pediatric departments/pediatric research institutes in NIH funding.  The Arkansas Children’s Foundation is a robust fundraising enterprise that has yielded countless gifts, which currently includes 42 Endowed Chairs in the department and hospital.

Our Philosophy

The future of pediatric health care depends on excellence in cutting-edge clinical care, the innovative discovery of tomorrow’s cures, advocating for all children, and teaching the next generation of providers.

We seek the means to reduce morbidity and mortality and to advance the state of the art in health care through our basic, clinical and applied research endeavors. We promote rigorous, high-quality research through the recruitment and retention of excellent scientists, development of thematic research groups and support of the research infrastructure.

Our administrative services exist to facilitate the productivity of all of the members of our organization. We anticipate and respond to the needs of those we serve. We are good stewards of our resources and are committed to the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in management.

We endeavor to provide the highest quality, comprehensive and well-organized curriculum and program for our students, residents, fellows and other trainees. We tailor our instruction to meet the specific needs of individual trainees.

We promote self-directed learning as the basis for lifelong continuing education. We strive to fulfill the needs for continuing medical education and community education in pediatrics in the State. We are innovators in education and we continuously improve our programs and develop the teaching skills of our educators.

We promote a nurturing, positive and enjoyable work atmosphere. We recognize that each and every member of the organization has a unique and important role in fulfilling our tripartite mission.

We challenge, develop and empower each individual to achieve his or her full potential. We affirm our commitment to carry out our own unique roles to the best of our ability, to be flexible and to work together and with our partners as a mutually supportive team to achieve these important organizational goals. We recognize, reward and celebrate excellence.
