Arkansas Children’s and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock, Arkansas seek a full-time BE/BC Pediatric Physiatrist to lead a new Division within the Department of Pediatrics (DOP).
The Opportunity

- Create a new division with the Department of Pediatrics with a clinical and research collaboration with critical care medicine, a Level I trauma program, a high-volume neurosciences program and orthopaedic program
- Recruit faculty with niche clinical research interests to offer services for a multi-state referral base
- Expand the present physical footprint of both inpatient and outpatient services
- Diverse team with three pediatric physiatrists and a dedicated APRN
- 12-bed inpatient unit within a dedicated pediatric hospital
- Interdisciplinary care and research with the Neurosciences and Trauma Divisions
- Dedicated outpatient programs with strong outreach efforts, including general rehabilitation, spasticity, and certified Centers of Excellence in neuromuscular disease including Duchenne muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, and neuropathy populations
- Integrated designated inpatient rehabilitation unit with medical-surgical and ventilator-dependent patient capacity
- Active consultation services for all Arkansas Children’s Hospital inpatients including early involvement with critical care
- Alter-G, in-house accessible pool and upper limb robot for use in outpatient or inpatient capacity
- Enhances the education of medical students, residents and fellows, including collaboration with multiple residencies and fellowship programs including pediatrics, PMR, neurology and developmental pediatrics.
- Strong transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams treating Neuromuscular Disease, Spinal Cord Disorders, Concussion/Brain Injury, Complex Care
- Achieve CARF accreditation for the program
- Access to robust nutritional support, Ph.D. pharmacologists, speech, physical and occupational therapies with access to two additional therapy gyms
Pediatric PMR is also supported by all other essential teams:
- The Rehabilitation Department includes PT, OT and Aquatic therapy with a state-of-the-art therapy pool
- In-house Orthotics and Prosthetic services available to inpatients and outpatients
- Speech and Language Therapy, Child Life and Education, Music Therapy, Case Management, Social Work, Psychology and Nutrition are also integral members of the inpatient rehabilitation team
- Electrodiagnosis opportunities alongside the Neurology service are available. We have a need for ultrasound-guided interventions with available equipment as well
- Strong referral relationships with orthopedic and genetics services
- Interventional radiology and hospitalist support are also available 24-7
Practice is based at Arkansas Children’s Hospital
The Arkansas Children’s System includes two hospitals, a statewide care network of clinics and outreach programs, a research institute and a foundation. ACH is the only pediatric health system in the state of Arkansas, providing coverage to the state’s children from birth to age 21. The hospital staff consists of mor ethan 500 faculty, 200 residents and 4,400 support staff.
