Arkansas Children’s and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock, Arkansas, seek a forward-thinking, collaborative physician leader to serve as the next Chief of Pediatric Nephrology. The Chief of Pediatric Nephrology will provide clinical expertise, strategic direction, and administrative oversight to our Section and its programs. They will supervise the launch of the Pediatric Center for Kidney and Urinary Tract Disorders in collaboration with Pediatric Urology with a vision to be recognized nationally and internationally as a premier center for pediatric nephrology, setting the standard for advancing pediatric kidney health through exceptional care, pioneering research and unrivaled training.
The ideal candidate has a strong record of academic/scholarly accomplishments, successful collaborations with hospital and medical partners, dedication to a team culture of accountability and professionalism, knowledge of academic infrastructure and finances, and a demonstrated commitment to education by developing young clinicians into future leaders in pediatrics. This individual will be an employee of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine and work within the Department of Pediatrics stationed at Arkansas Children’s, a free-standing children’s hospital.

Leadership Opportunity Based at Arkansas Children’s
- Initiate a state-of-the-art strategic vision for the Section of Pediatric Nephrology that seeks to provide comprehensive, evidence-based, exemplary care for children with kidney-related disorders, dialysis, and transplantation
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives that enhance the quality, efficiency and accessibility of pediatric nephrology services
- Promote research and scholarly activities within the Section, including participation in clinical trials, outcomes research and quality improvement projects
- Oversee the development of a new pediatric nephrology fellowship to begin shortly
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, innovation, continuous improvement and a culture of excellence
- Engage in medical education and training activities for medical students, residents and fellows
- Collaborate with other department leaders, hospital administration and external stakeholders to enhance pediatric services and programs
- Represent the Section within professional organizations and academic forums
- Build statewide, regional and national relationships for the Section and the Department
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, policies and procedures related to pediatric care

General
- Consecutively ranked Pediatric Nephrology Section by USNWR for seven years
- Sole provider of specialty care for children with kidney disease in the state
Clinical Expertise and Services
- Our team includes six nephrology faculty members with academic appointments at UAMS. A dedicated renal dietitian, social worker, psychologist, pharmacist, two transplant coordinators, one research nurse, a child life specialist, and nursing personnel in clinic and dialysis with 100% effort dedicated to Nephrology
- The state’s only In-center outpatient pediatric hemodialysis unit with dedicated pediatric staff, and an active outpatient home peritoneal dialysis program
- We offer all modalities of kidney replacement therapy, including neonatal CKRT
- Active ECMO program which utilizes CKRT
- The state’s only accredited renal transplant program with a dedicated renal transplant clinic
- Large outpatient clinical service with more than 5,000 visits annually, including specialty clinics in vasculitis, complex renal/bladder disorders, kidney stones, tuberous sclerosis, and dedicated hypertension clinic
- Outpatient Clinical services are available within the state at AC in Little Rock, Arkansas Children’s Northwest (ACNW) in Springdale, and in our satellite clinic in Jonesboro
- Robust 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitor program with 600+ studies each year.
- Primary and Consultative inpatient services for children hospitalized at AC, with telemedicine consultative services for children hospitalized at ACNW
Education and Research
- Educational opportunities abound with Section members actively engaged in our academic missions, including training our pediatric residents and medical students
- Recently approved to develop a pediatric nephrology fellowship training program
- Committed to research and quality improvement efforts, supported by a research coordinator, this Section contributes to active collaborative clinical research efforts, including SCOPE, NAPRTCS, IROC, and the PNRC

Practice Is Based at Arkansas Children’s Hospital
The Arkansas Children’s system includes two hospitals, a statewide care network of clinics and outreach programs, a research institute and a foundation. Arkansas Children’s is the only pediatric health system in the state of Arkansas, providing coverage to the state’s children from birth to age 21. The hospital staff consists of more than 500 faculty, 200 residents and 4,400 support staff.
