Jennifer Rumpel, M.D., is a clinical neonatologist and assistant professor who leads clinical care teams caring for critically ill neonates at Level III and IV neonatal intensive care units. Physician scientist who leads multidisciplinary collaborative research teams conducting retrospective and prospective research focused on improving outcomes for neonatal patients. Dr. Rumpel is also a teacher of clinical management in the neonatal intensive care unit for medical students, residents, neonatal-perinatal medicine fellows, nurse practitioner students, and primary mentor of medical student and neonatal-perinatal medicine fellow research.
Dr. Rumpels current research is focused on advancing care of neonates with acute kidney injury and optimizing tracheal intubation outcomes and neonatal safety. She is the principal investigator of a multicenter prospective evaluation of urine biomarkers and renal near infrared spectroscopy for early kidney injury detection in neonates with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. She has received several awards for her research abstracts and presentations taking her across the country to present her findings to other organizations and professionals.
