Home Town: Dallas, Texas
When I study medicine, I most enjoy learning about: Genetics and Embryology. I am fascinated by the genetic links to and causes of diseases, both common and rare. I also enjoy learning about the history of why we do what we do in medicine.
Things that make me unique are: that I was a teacher, a social worker, and I worked in a religious organization prior to my career in medicine. I learned Spanish while studying abroad and taught Spanish for three years.
I’m not only a doctor, I also like to: travel, learn about other cultures, run, and garden. I once worked in a flower shop where I learned to make flower arrangements. Now I like to learn how to grow flowers.
To get myself motivated I think of: what great love God has for us, the great cloud of witnesses that surround us, and the cross that Jesus endured for us.
The hours I spend warm and cozy with a book I’m reading: so many different types of books. I read fiction and non-fiction. I just finished “We Were the Lucky Ones” and I am reading “Unbroken” and “The Monk of Mokha” now. A couple of my favorite books are the “The Screwtape Letters” and “Mountains Beyond Mountains.”
With popcorn in hand the movie I’m watching is: just about any good movie, though my favorite genre is science fiction. A few of my favorite movies are the “Back to the Future” series, “It Could Happen to You,” and “The Sound of Music.”
Without a DVR on my cable box I’d miss (or I’m in front of the TV so I won’t miss): anything on HGTV or a quirky sitcom like “The Office,” “The Middle,” or “Parks and Rec.” And I have watched the entire “Gilmore Girls” series far more times than I would like to admit.
On my iPod, iPhone, iMac, iPad, etc. I listen to: just about any well-done song. Some of my favorite artists include Crowder, Shane and Shane, Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, 80’s and 90’s pop music, and symphony music.
When friends and family come visit me in Little Rock, I want to take them to: a great breakfast spot (my favorite right now is At the Corner), Pinnacle Mountain, Two Rivers Park, the River Trail, The Movie Tavern, and Scoop Dog for a frozen custard. That sounds like the most amazing day! If there is time, I hop over to Conway to introduce them to the cheese dip at Stoby’s and cupcakes at Patticakes Bakery.
I chose the UAMS Pediatrics Residency Program because it’s wonderful and…: they care deeply for the children who come through their hospital, and they want to help their resident physicians become the best Pediatricians they can become.
