Obeid Shafi, MD, is an Assistant Medical Information Officer and an Assistant Professor in the Section of Clinical Informatics, Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Shafi earned his medical degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh, and completed pediatric training at Delhi University, India, followed by a pediatric residency at Queens, New York, where he also served as Chief Resident. This experience fostered an interest in leveraging Health Information Technology (HIT) to improve pediatric care, leading him to pursue a fellowship in Clinical Informatics at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Shafi’s academic and operational focus centers on applied clinical informatic to improve healthcare delivery and quality for clinicians and patients alike. His work encompasses enhancing Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDS), optimizing Electronic Health Record (EHR) usability, and delving into the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medicine.
Clinically, Dr. Shafi is a Pediatric Hospitalist, dedicated to providing family-centered care. He is deeply committed to medical education, quality improvement, and safety initiatives, ensuring his informatics work translates directly into better patient outcomes and the training of the next generation of physicians.
