Dr. Sowmya Patil, MBBs, MD, FAAP is a Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of the Division of General Pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children’s Hospital, where she also serves as Service Line Chief for General Pediatrics. She earned her medical degree at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Belgaum, India. Subsequently, she completed her pediatrics residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She is board certified General Pediatrician who is a clinician, educator, and academic leader. Dr. Patil has made substantial contributions to pediatric primary care, undergraduate and graduate medical education, and early childhood health initiatives. She has directed multiple core medical student courses, developed comprehensive simulation-based curricula in clinical communication and physical diagnosis, and provided sustained mentorship to medical students, residents, and junior faculty. Nationally, she serves as the Chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Pediatric Education. She is an active member of the Education Committee of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Patil’s scholarly work includes peer-reviewed publications, clinical guidelines, and educational and quality-improvement initiatives that have informed best practices in pediatric outpatient care. Her leadership and service have been recognized through numerous institutional, state, and national honors reflecting excellence in education, mentorship, and clinical care.
