Opportunity Highlights

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and Arkansas Children’s are seeking general and subspecialized pediatric gastroenterologists, including focused tracts for clinicians, educators and physician-scientists, to join a significantly expanding Department of Pediatrics with a reputation for collegiality, diversity and dedication to exceptional patient care, research and education. We are expanding all our programs, with a current emphasis on faculty with niches in advanced endoscopy, neurogastroenterology/motility, EGIDs and hepatology.

The Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (GI) section has fully established faculty-led programs in: Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders (including transnasal endoscopy), Liver Diseases, Intestinal Failure & Rehabilitation and a complex endoscopy team. We have a fully implemented aerodigestive program and recently developed a comprehensive Neurogastroenterology and Motility service.

The section is comprised of 11 physician faculty members, nine advanced practice nurse practitioners, specialty nurses, procedure nurses/technicians, administrative staff, dietitians, psychologists, and social workers, with planned fully funded pediatric gastroenterology fellowship to begin this year.

Arkansas Children’s enjoys close research connections with the Arkansas Children’s Nutrition Center, one of only two USDA-funded centers in the country focused on maternal and child nutrition research.

Benefits include:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package along with robust faculty mentoring program and multiple tracks available for promotion and/or tenure
  • Faculty appointment through UAMS College of Medicine
  • Supportive environment for research and innovation, including the support of a comprehensive research institute on-site
  • Excellent leave benefits to promote a healthy work/life balance, including paid parental leave for benefit eligible employees.
  • Employee childcare center
  • UAMS supports H-1B, J-1 Scholar, and J-1 Alien Physician foreign national employees
  • As an employee of UAMS, you may benefit from student loan forgiveness through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF)

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold an MD or equivalent and be board eligible/board certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology.

The section provides top-notch clinical care for patients across Arkansas and surrounding states through three campuses including the main campus at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas Children’s Northwest, and Jonesboro. The section had over 10,000 outpatient clinic visits, over 1700 inpatient encounters and over 2000 procedures this past year.

The Arkansas Children’s Health System includes two hospitals, a statewide care network of clinics and outreach programs, a research institute and a foundation. Arkansas Children’s is the only pediatric health system in the state of Arkansas, providing coverage to the state’s children from birth to age 21. The hospital’s staff consists of more than 500 faculty, 200 residents and 4,400 support staff.

The capital city of Arkansas is a bustling, vibrant and charming city situated along the bank of the Arkansas River. At the geographic center of the state, Little Rock rests at the crossroads of the South and the Mid-West, combining the best elements into a greater whole.

GI’s future is bright with plans to further develop flagship programs, expand programming and research, recruit additional faculty, and improve patient access.
